The Hampton Stool is oak, so treat it as solid timber. Dust with a soft, dry cloth, or one barely damp, and dry it straight away. Blot spills immediately rather than rubbing them into the grain. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents and silicone-based polishes — the grey-washed finish sits close to the surface and will lift if scrubbed. Keep the stool out of direct sunlight and away from heaters or air-conditioning outlets, which dry the timber and fade the finish. Grain and colour vary naturally from stool to stool, and the natural tops will mellow with age.
